Testimonial: Brewery Mittenwalder

“We are very satisfied with the pumps. Operation is very reliable and meets the intended duty."

Markus Hirthammer, brew master Mittenwalder

Modernization for traditional brewery

The Mittenwald brewery was founded in 1902 and is therefore the second oldest functioning brewery in Germany. Gradually there was a need for modernization, which led to the construction of a new brew house.

As a result, there was also a need for a new pump park. For this they ended up with Koch Pumpentechnik, the German distributor of Packo Pumps.

The completion of the brew house, from idea to finish, took about 2 years. The implementation of the new centrifugal pumps in the existing production process was imperceptible. Which meant that it had no effect on the quality of the beer.

More flexibility

The new brew house includes 4 kettles: a mash tun, a mash bath, a lauter tun and a wort water boiler including whirlpool. This set-up allows a great flexibility in the preparation of the total of 10 beers.

The number of pumps were increased by the expansion from 3 to a total of 11, of which there are now 10 Packo Pumps.

The pumps used come from different series (ICP+, IRP+ and FP). All these series share a hygienic stainless steel construction (1.4404 / 316 L) with an electro polished surface, resulting in a very low roughness. They are also all powered by energy-efficient motors and have a very low NPSH.

Smooth cooperation

The models of the ICP+ and FP series are the perfect process and CIP pumps, suitable for pumping clean and contaminated liquids of different viscosities. The IRP+ is an ideal CIP return (scavenge) pump for air handling.

All the pumps that have been delivered, meet the efficiency-standard MEI (Minimum Efficiency Index) like all pumps manufactured by Packo Pumps.

Markus Hirthammer, brew master: "At the moment we use about 70 to 80 percent of the maximum capacity of the pumps so that, if necessary, we can step things up."
